Frequently Asked Questions

How did you get into the business of trading in jewels and treasures?

I grew up in Europe and got hooked on the beauty and mystery of historic treasures at an early age, with many castle visits in Germany and shopping for antiques with my parents in France. My mother studied gemology and I was intrigued by precious gemstones as a teenager, and decided to become a gemologist in my early 20s. Living on the grounds a Hillwood Museum in Washington DC also increased my interest, as did working at Christie’s auction house in New York for 10 years.

I do both. I tend to buy a few exceptional items a year usually from private clients. If I don’t choose to buy a single item or a collection but have potential buyers in mind, I sometimes offer to arrange sales on commission basis. Unlike public auctions all transactions are kept confidential. With 35 years of experience as a private dealer I’ve cultivated an extensive global network of clients.

Unlike the long wait time, uncertain outcome and hefty fees auction houses charge sellers, the price I offer as a private dealer is immediate, net to you and competitive.

In the past most of my best finds have come from European countries and Great Britain but sometimes incredible treasures surface in North America. I buy directly from the public and occasionally at auctions and from dealers. In 2026 I will relocate to Europe to expand my jewelry and tours business there while maintaining a base in New York City.

Our Treasures page features a small selection of exceptional objects and jewelry. Each item is thoroughly researched for authenticity and provenance (history of ownership). Each gem and precious metal is tested using gemological equipment. If you have any questions we encourage you to call or text us on WhatsApp at  +1 917 319 5736.

That’s our specialty. We have a podcast which was featured in Jewelry Journey, hosted by the marvelous Sharon Berman. For more extensive information on the history and market of Russian jewelry firms, our groundbreaking book Beyond Fabergé: Imperial Russian Jewelry (2020) is available for purchase. To learn more, go Beyond Fabergé page. My jewelry blog in part covers the topic of Russian imperial jewelry and Romanov history.
