Russian Imperial-era Wooden Box Depicting Troika, Early 20th century

The cover depicting the receding view of a troika pulling a traditional Russian sleigh though a winter landscape, the three charging horses urged along by a coachman with a red hat cracking a whip. Two contented women wrapped in babushki appear behind him one with outstretched arm waving to no one in particular while a dozing man wearing a shapka slumps in the rear. On the right a well-bundled couple wave the group farewell while they careen past a small village lined with snow laden dachas. The sides of the box are roughly textured, the interior inscribed in English All souvenir and best thoughts always with you Volodja, 3/11/1938, Paris
