English Cameo and Diamond Ring, circa 1870

This stunning ring is a masterpiece of cameo carving and gold workmanship. From the mid-Victorian era, it is in excellent, original condition. The rectangular carved sardonyx (a type of chalcedony) cameo depicts a neo-classical full-length dancing maenad.  The carving is meticulously detailed, on a rich, even orange background that is translucent and has a mirror-like finish.  The cameo is surrounded by thirty-two antique-cut diamonds and sits on an openwork 18k gold gallery supported by curved gold shoulders, each enhanced with an antique-cut diamond.

English, circa 1870.

The seller is highly knowledgeable, carries quality items, and is very willing to share her knowledge about the item you buy and also generalities about the times items are from. A very satisfying experience for me and highly recommended.
