The Red Cross Badge of Saint Petersburg, Russia
The Red Cross emblem was awarded for
1) Services rendered to the Society of Red Cross during the time of war or public disasters.
2) The long and useful works for the society in peacetime.
3) Large donations for the cause of Red Cross (no less than 5000 rubles).
This superb cigarette case, inscribed A Happy Xmas to my old man from George, was custom made and possibly presented by the enamel silversmith himself, George Adam Schneid to a friend or to his own father, no doubt a recipient of the St. Petersburg Badge of the Red Cross in the early 20th century.
