Circular Russian Painting of a Troika and 19th Century Wooden Egg

From the imperial era, period of Tsar Nicholas II, depicting a troika pulling traditional Russian sleigh though a winter landscape, the panting horses whipped along by a red-bearded driver wearing a shapka, while two women wearing scarves huddle in conversation in the rear. Snow laden village houses and fields beneath grey skies houses appear in the distance. The reverse fitted with a suspension hook. The egg which opens in two halves painted in red with lilies of the valley, XB for Christ is Risen, on ring stand.

Painting-10 in. (24.5 cm) diam; egg only: 3 ½ in. (8.9 cm) high.
